Criteria
When compiling this list we wanted the top 100 best 80's dance music there was. The list is not confined to 'dance music' as is often defined but draws from a wide range of musical genres from pop, rock, new wave, disco, r&b and more.
Basically if you can dance to it then it's in! It is a smorgasbord of songs that showcase just how diverse the 80s was and how you could find yourself dancing to anything.
Any style of music goes, what is important is that they are suitable for an 80s party and they must be great songs!
No ordinary songs, the songs here all have something about them that makes people love them when they hear them.
Perennial Favourites
The songs that made it onto the list still must have partying potential today. Unfortunately not all eighties songs are capable of this, but the ones on this list are!
While many of the songs sound distinctively 80's, they are still enjoyed by large numbers of people today. They are not songs on the wane, but songs that are still as popular today.
Most of them were big 80's hits in their day and if they were released tomorrow would still probably be hits as well.
They refuse to go away and it is to our benefit that they intend to stay on our sound waves.
Keeping It Eighties
It is also important that we have kept it to songs that were released in the 80's. This is usually the initial release date but it may be the year a song was re-released if it was more successful the second time around.
In other words if a song was released in the beginning of 1990 it is not on this list. When we say the eighties, we mean the eighties!
Whether you keep it eighties is up to you. If you want to whip out your shellsuit from your loft, then now would be as good a time as any.
If you want to get a group of people together and all rock out in your most extreme 80's gear then even better!
Back To Where We Were
The songs we have chosen will take you back. Maybe for 1 hour or 2 hours or more depending on how long you want to be there.
They are distinctively 80's. They will bring back memories and pictures of things you remember from way back.
They will take you to a place called 80's ecstasy and you will love it there. It is a pleasure to experience the sounds in this magical place.
